Em and I love trying fun, active new adventures and have heard so many awesome things about this particular high ropes course that we knew that we had to do this for one of our dates! Before we went, I was not too nervous about the high ropes course. I had done a couple high ropes courses at some camps before and thought that this course would be the same. But boy was I wrong! The 44 obstacles were an awesome challenge and ranged from a rope bridge to swinging rings! Two of my favorite obstacles were the skate board zipline and the free jump!

Locals believe that the stones were laid for a girl who lived in the castle and used the stones to meet her lover across the river. Instead, he says the first alphabet is the Greek revision of Semitic syllabic writing. That is, an alphabet requires symbols for vowels. Without vowels, consonants can’t be pronounced, so only partial information on how to read a passage is provided by just the consonants.
Greek diacritics In the polytonic orthography traditionally used for ancient Greek, the stressed vowel of each word carries one of three accent marks: These signs were originally designed to mark different forms of the phonological pitch accent in Ancient Greek. By the time their use became conventional and obligatory in Greek writing, in late antiquity, pitch accent was evolving into a single stress accent , and thus the three signs have not corresponded to a phonological distinction in actual speech ever since.
In addition to the accent marks, every word-initial vowel must carry either of two so-called “breathing marks”: In , a new, simplified orthography, known as “monotonic”, was adopted for official use in Modern Greek by the Greek state. It uses only a single accent mark, the acute also known in this context as tonos, i. The polytonic system is still conventionally used for writing Ancient Greek, while in some book printing and generally in the usage of conservative writers it can still also be found in use for Modern Greek.
Romanization of Greek There are many different methods of rendering Greek text or Greek names in the Latin script.

Of all the accomplishments of the ancient Middle East, the invention of the alphabet is probably the greatest. While pre-alphabetic systems of writing in the Old World became steadily more phonetic, they were still exceedingly cumbersome, and the syllabic systems that gradually replaced them… Theories of the origin of the alphabet The evolution of the alphabet involved two important achievements.
The first was the step taken by a group of Semitic-speaking people, perhaps the Phoenicians, on the eastern shore of the Mediterranean between and bce. This was the invention of a consonantal writing system known as North Semitic. The second was the invention, by the Greeks, of characters for representing vowels. This step occurred between and bce.
While some scholars consider the Semitic writing system an unvocalized syllabary and the Greek system the true alphabet, both are treated here as forms of the alphabet. Over the centuries, various theories have been advanced to explain the origin of alphabetic writing, and, since Classical times, the problem has been a matter of serious study. The Greeks and Romans considered five different peoples as the possible inventors of the alphabet—the Phoenicians, Egyptians, Assyrians, Cretans, and Hebrews.
Among modern theories are some that are not very different from those of ancient days.

Ring discovered in Viking-era grave has Arabic inscription Futhark origins Because of the resemblance to Mediterranean writing, it is thought that Futhark was adapted from either the Greek or Etruscan alphabet and its origin begins further back than the pre-history of Northern Europe. One theory is that the runic alphabet was developed by the Goths, a Germanic people. Two inscriptions, the Negau and the Maria Saalerberg inscriptions, written in Etruscan script in a Germanic language and dating from the second and first centuries BC, give credence to the theory of Etruscan origins.

Melissa 13 comments Often considered one of the more difficult languages to master thanks to the incredible amount of inconsistencies in the language, it should come as no surprise that the development of the modern English alphabet involved several languages, hundreds of years and a variety of conquers, missionaries and scholars. Origins of Alphabetic Writing Dating back nearly four thousand years, early alphabetic writing, as opposed to other early forms of writing like cuneiform which employed the use of different wedge shapes or hieroglyphics which primarily used pictographic symbols , relied on simple lines to represent spoken sounds.

Its origins are uncertain: Ogham is also known as or ogham craobh tree ogham beth luis fearn or beth luis nion, after the first few letters. Ogham probably pre-dates the earliest inscriptions – some scholars believe it dates back to the 1st century AD – as the language used shows pre-4th century elements.
It is thought to have been modelled on or inspired by the Roman, Greek or Runic scripts. It was designed to write Primitive Irish and was possibly intended as a secret form of communication. While all surviving Ogham inscriptions are on stone, it was probably more commonly inscribed on sticks, stakes and trees. Inscriptions are mostly people’s names and were probably used to mark ownership, territories and graves. Some inscriptions in primitive Irish and Pictish have not been deciphered, there are also a number of bilingual inscriptions in Ogham and Latin, and Ogham and Old Norse written with the Runic alphabet.

Some of the mid ‘s straight guage frames had serial numbers starting with a single letter which was towards the end of the alphabet. This new system applied to the high-end i. Reynolds frames, and involved the placing of a character at the beginning of the serial number. The character began at the start of the alphabet, and indicated year of manufacture. Detail about the numerals that follow the alphabet are sketchy, and are presumably sequential serial numbers of some kind.

I soon found that my list now consisted of just two options — climbing or circus. Putting on a brave face Chatting to the girls from work, I highlight my slight distress that both options could well include being at considerable height. The ominous looking black envelope is handed to me and when I open up the paper inside to reveal that indeed, ‘C is for circus tricks’, my heart drops.
